The C&O Canal is a national historical park stretching 184.5 miles from Georgetown in Washington, D.C. to Cumberland, MD. Built for trade in the 1800s, the canal now serves a different purpose.
The C&O Canal has become a place to take my mind away from the chaos of life. A natural playground for me to explore. A place of wonder and beauty that carries the chorus of birds and the occasional train. The river sometimes appears as if it is made of glass, and other times, chocolate. Its current is highlighted by rocks holding strong, cutting through the flow. During the warmer seasons, wildflowers show their splendor and fill out the forest floor. It is a place to escape the traffic and noise. Time seems to slow down as the environment seems to suck you in and transport you away from the surrounding world.
This series of 8.5 x 11 inkjet prints highlights the Frederick County, MD stretch of the park. My intention with this project was to show the quiet and beauty that our national parks have to offer. These places play an important role not just for recreation, but also for our well-being and the education of our planet. I hope you enjoy the beauty the C&O Canal has to offer.
